Introduction of vine bangles

"Who Are We?"

We are the guardians of a time-honoured Tibetan tradition — the vine bangle, known in Tibetan as “Jiamala Guo”. These bracelets grow in mountains above 4,000 meters above sea level and can only be picked for two months a year. They are more than ornaments; they are bearers of meaning and blessings.

In Tibetan culture, children wear chicken blood vine bangles to stay safe and healthy. Young people exchange them as tokens of affection, and women and elders wear them as a daily companion. Vine bracelets are deeply embedded in the everyday life of the Tibetan people, passed down across generations.

"What You Might Not Know"

The harvesting of chicken blood vine is no easy feat. These vines grow at high altitudes, often in rugged, isolated regions. Gathering them requires long treks through bitter cold and thin mountain air. Even for seasoned locals, each trip demands caution and resilience.

"Made to Meet You"

Every Bangle Begins with a Journey

After harvesting, each vine must go through a delicate, manual process to be transformed into a wearable piece. This includes:

  • Transportation from remote mountain areas

  • Careful selection and sorting

  • Shade-drying to preserve natural structure

  • Cleaning and segment trimming

  • Final hand-polishing and finishing

Every single bangle is made entirely by hand, with care, patience, and attention to natural beauty.

Quality Matters

Not all vines make the cut. A large portion becomes shrunken or brittle during drying and cannot be used. Only those that maintain the right shape and strength are selected for production.

After washing, artisans once again handpick the finest vines — free of severe imperfections — making each bracelet a rare and valuable creation.

"Vine bangle : A Living Tradition"

Today, vine bangles come in a variety of natural types:
Chicken Blood Vine, King Kong Vine (Jingang Teng),
 and Wind Vine (Feng Teng).

During the late Qing Dynasty, vine bangles were often included in wedding dowries, symbolising love and continuity. As aesthetic tastes evolve, vine bangles have become an artisanal expression, blending natural elegance with personal meaning.

Eileen Chang wearing vine bangles

Eileen Chang, one of the most distinctive voices in modern Chinese literature, was known for her elegant yet restrained prose. Through works like Love in a Fallen City and Lust, Caution, she explored the inner lives of women with subtlety and sharp insight, always maintaining a tone of cool elegance and quiet defiance.

Throughout her life, she lived simply, almost never wearing jewellery — yet she cherished one item above all: a gold-trimmed vine bangle. It was the only piece of gold jewellery she ever owned. Wrapped in gold but rooted in vine, the bracelet was both modest and graceful, firm yet delicate — much like Chang herself.

To her, the bangle was more than an accessory. It was a quiet companion, a symbol of inner strength and understated resilience. Just like her writing — never ostentatious, never yielding — it continues to resonate with quiet power.

How to measure hand circumference?

How to measure hand circumference?

Option 1: Measuring with a Soft Tape

Wrap a soft measuring tape around the narrowest part of your wrist. Make sure it sits snugly against the skin, not too tight and not too loose.
The length of one full wrap is your wrist size.
No need to leave extra space yourself — we’ll handle the fit.

Option 2: DIY Measuring Method

Take a strip of paper or a piece of string and wrap it around the narrowest part of your wrist, ensuring it’s snug but not tight.

Mark the point where the paper or string overlaps. Then, lay it flat and measure the length using a ruler.
The measured length is your exact wrist size.
Again, no need to add extra room — we’ll take care of that during crafting.
